RibeiroTreixadura
Distinguished, harmonious and rounded, Treixadura is the top white variety in the Ribeiro vineyards; it is perfectly suited to the area and is the expression of the full potential of the region. It is gradually being planted to take over from other varieties that are less suitable for the area. It is irreplaceable in the Ribeiro district and was the main variety responsible for the legendary reputation earned by the region's wines

It is late budding and ripening and is therefore sensitive to altitude, so that the further up the hillsides it grows, where temperatures are lower, the chances of it ripening fully become less, so it is more commonly grown in valleys and on well-sheltered hillsides. It is strong, of average fertility with a yield ranging from 12 - 15 Ton/Ha of excellent qualitative potential. It is not very drought-resistant and needs warm soil. Of average susceptibility to oidium and mildew, and also susceptible to botrytis cinerea (grey mould) and excoriosis.

Further information:

This variety produces aromatic, smooth and elegant wines evoking fruit and with delicate floral notes and balsamic touches. They easily reach 12 - 13.5º alcohol content, compensated by a total acidity of between 5.5 and 7 g/l expressed as tartaric acid, making them fresh, balanced, flavourful and unctuous.

Monovarietals of Treixadura can be found in the Ribeiro, but the majority of producers opt for a blend of various native varieties in which Treixadura predominates. Such blends epitomise the richness of this unique region, where vineyards work in balance and harmony to produce original and distinctive wines.

The wines in which Treixadura predominates normally age well at least up to 2 years from the grape harvest.
